VOCAB: Wax and Wane




wax

1. To increase gradually in size, number, strength, or intensity.
2. To show a progressively larger illuminated area, as the moon does in passing from new to full.
3. To grow or become as specified

wane 
1. To decrease gradually in size, amount, intensity, or degree; decline.
2. To exhibit a decreasing illuminated area from full moon to new moon.
3. To approach an end.



Look up in the sky tonight.  
Ever wonder how to tell if the moon is waxing or waning?
It's easy... if the bright bit is on the right, it's waxing.
If it's on the left, it's waning.
