Emerging in the 14th Century of Western European origin, esquire is a term rank and respect - just below the knight meaning "shield-bearer". In America these days, it's a courtesy title we give to lawyers.
It's also the title of a kick-ass periodical that, from it's beginnings in the 1930s emphasized men's fashion and contributions by writers like Ernest Hemingway, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Norman Mailer, Tim O'Brien, and Tom Wolfe

The world sat up and took notice of Auguste when he showed 6 painting at the 1874 Impressionist Exhibition. To this day, we're still bowled over by the vibrant light and saturated color in the intimate scenes and expressive character of Renoir's subjects.
