In May 1917, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reported that Mrs. Julius S. Walsh, Jr. hosted the world's first cocktail party at her home on a Sunday afternoon from noon until one o'clock.
It was an instant hit and shortly after became a St. Louis (and American) institution.
